•SWELLING: normal reaction during the 48 hours following surgery.
•ECCHYMOSES: on the adjacent skin to the implant. It disappears after 7 to 10 days.
•PAIN: normal, controlled by the analgesics prescribed by the dentist.
•BLEEDING: normal from 24h to 48h after the placement of the implant.
•INFECTION: relatively rare, at the implant site. Controlled by antibiotics. At the dentist’s discretion.
•INTEGRATION FAILES: (3-7%) the implant did not fuse with the bone. In these cases, the implant has to be removed and restart the procedure.
Depending on the anatomy of each patients, there is a risk of temporary or permanent sensitivity loss on the chin and tongue if the implant is located near a nerve; a risk of sinusitis, a risk of damage on the roots of the teeth adjacent to the implant, and a risk of fracture of the jaw during the preparation of the site for the implant in the case of bone atrophy. Those risks are to be discussed with the treating dentist.
