Periodontal infection and premature birth
Complications of periodontal infections
Some physicians specialist in birth have qualified that the periodontal disease is the number one treatable cause of miscarriage and premature birth. The periodontal infection starts in the mouth. However, as the infection grows, it will spread out to the rest of the body.
Pregnant woman should get treatment as soon as possible to decrease the quality of bacteria on site and, therefore, the amount of bacteria that can spread out to the baby.
During pregnancy, the future mother will also experience gum bleeding that can be related to the hormones.
But even in those case, it is impossible to the mother to make a difference between an infection and normal hormones effects. Therefore, it is wise to have regular follow up by a dentist.
