Night Teeth Grinding
Definition
Le bruxism: grinding of teeth in response to stress. This response can be conscious, but very often, it’s an unconscious habit that occurs especially during sleep.
Causes
Bad long-lasting habits or excessive stress. Though the problem is mostly psychological, the symptoms in the mouth are the first ones to be noticed. Jaw pains, cramps in the face muscle when waking up, acute teeth pain that appears and disappears, premature wearing of the teeth are signs of teeth grinding.
Though bruxism can happen during the day as well as at night, the night teeth grinding is more harmful because, during this period, the wearing of the teeth occurs from teeth to teeth. It is during those night periods that the damage to the teeth and jaw are more prominent.
