FLUOROSIS

DEFINITION:

Dental fluorosis is a condition that occurs during the years of tooth formation, resulting from intake of fluoride. The effect is irreversible, though it is mainly a cosmetic and does not increase the risk of cavities.


SYMPTOMS:

•Small whitish or brownish stains.


TREATMENTS:

•In light or moderate cases, composite fillings can hide dental fluorosis.

•In severe cases, porcelain veneers can be used.


PREVENTION:

•Avoid over consumption of fluoride, depending on age and weight.
