CANCER OF THE MOUTH

DEFINITION:

Cancers of the mouth are defined as oral malignant tumours. They can affect many areas of the mouth, including the lips, the tongue, and the pharynx.

SYMPTOMS:

•Wounds or ulcers that are present during at least two weeks.

•Abnormal growths on the lips.

•Red or white marks on the lips or the tongue.


TREATMENTS:

Treatments are under the supervision of a physician.


PREVENTION:

•Completely stop the use of tobacco products.

•Moderate consumption of alcohol.

•Regular dental exams, allowing detection of premature lesions.

•More frequent examinations for those who have previously had other cancers, or a deficient immune system.

•Self examination the mouth from time to time.
