BROKEN FILLINGS

DEFINITION:

Over time, filling can get worn, cracked or broken. If there is a gap between the filling and the tooth, bacteria of the mouth can infiltrate inside the tooth and start the process of a new decay.  If not treated, it can lead to an infection of the tooth and end up as a dental abscess.


SYMPTOMS:

•May be difficult to self detect defective filling

•In advanced cases, sensitivity to cold and hot

•Sensitivity to sugar


TREATMENTS:

•Replacement of the filling.

•A crown, if the lost of dental substance is too great


PREVENTION:

•Daily oral hygiene including brushing and flossing.

•Biannual dental exams and teeth cleaning (2x/year).
